Instead of drawing upon the rich history of prior US and Russian space programs, Professor Y went in a radically different direction in the development of the YummyWorks Astrofactory. His love of elevators would heavily influence his design decisions. He set to work on building his Astrofactory by first purchasing an abandoned offshore oil platform off the Isle of Capri coast.

Details on the construction of the Astrofactory was a closely guarded secret from the outside world except for the few locals he hired for cargo deliveries. Aware of his plans, they thought it to be so outrageous as to not even be science-fiction, but a wild fantasy! (They were not to the first to underestimated the indomitable Professor Y!) After 10 years of construction the Astrofactory became partially operational 2010.
